Lesson Title:Photosynthesis project miles stone 1

State Standards: GLEs/GSEs

National Standards:

Context of Lesson:

This will be the second time the students work on the project in class and will be when milestone 1 should be done which consists of rough drafts and sketches of games. At this point students should have an idea of what they are doing and should be continuing with forming their ideas and beginning to research using notes, their book, and outside sources. By the end of the class students should have their final idea and design for the game.
Overview of lesson, including: where it fits in unit, what are key ideas and what will students be doing.

Opportunities to Learn:

Depth of Knowledge

Webb's DOK- Level 3 Strategic Thinking
The milestone I will assign today is to do research for the game on Photosynthesis. I want to see their research so I will get a good idea on whether students research effectively and if we need to do more research based activities. I will continue to see what roles students play in groups and try to steer students away from one person doing all of the work.

Prerequisite Knowledge

  • Photosynthesis
  • How to research

Plans for Differentiating Instruction

To differentiate instruction I will send some students in a direction.(ex. you should make a game that is similar to shoots in ladders) Other students i will lead without giving absolute specifics.

Accommodations and modifications

Environmental factors

  • Students are working in groups

Materials

Students need to bring in own materials

Objectives:

  • Look at rough drafts and ideas for projects
  • Look at design ideas
  • Ask guiding questions so they can get their projects set in stone
  • Assign milestone 2
    • students must show me their research next project work day

Instruction:

Opening:

  • students get in groups
  • I walk around and look at rough ideas and sketches
  • I inform students that the next milestone is research so they should be starting to research Photosynthesis

Engagement:

As I look at the ideas they have written and their sketches i will ask questions both so i can understand what they are doing but also to get the students to think about how thye can make their projects better. My questioning should help them to get their idea to a point where it is their final idea and they can start making progress towards the due date.

Closure:

Once the period is coming to end I will tell students to wrap up what they are doing and remind everyone that I need to be able to see the research they had done for this project during the next project work day. I will also remind them that they should be working on the project outside of class and that this is an important project.

Assessment:

  • students will show project idea and sketches for home work credit.
